The Biggest Bang for Your Buck in Fence and Corral Pipe!

Most people purchase the pipe in the “as is” condition because they know how to use it and it is the most economical.   Since the vast majority of the pipe will have only a slight bow (less than one inch on center), it is not difficult to overcome.  As the video demonstrates, when cut into post lengths, the bow virtually disappears and when used in long lengths, the bow is easily removed.

FLASH – GOBOB APPROVES USED DE-COILED TUBING!

Don’t have a heart attack but GoBob has found some used tubing they actually recommend.  Yes, we have campaigned against, and have even had articles published about the perils of used pipe but GoBob is all about saving money and using the right pipe for the job and we have found some used pipe we will actually recommend, de-coiled tubing.

“From everything I have seen, read about, and the people I have talked to,” says Bob Studebaker, owner of GoBob Pipe & Steel. “I can’t see any reason not to take advantage of the savings that coiled tubing offers.”

Coil Tubing unit inserting pipe into a well

Coiled Tubing (CT) is an oilfield tubular that has been defined as any continuously-milled tubular product manufactured in lengths that require spooling onto a take-up reel, during the primary milling or manufacturing process. The tube is nominally straightened prior to being inserted into the wellbore and is recoiled for spooling back onto the reel.  Single reel tubing lengths in excess of 30,000 ft. have been commercially manufactured. Common CT steels have yield strengths ranging from 55,000 PSI to 120,000 PSI.  That compares favorably to structural grade schedule 40 pipe with an average yield of on 36,000 PSI.  Additionally, coiled tubing is heavier and thicker, averaging 20% more steel per foot of pipe.

Although this tubing is technically “used”, it has never been exposed to the degrading conditions that commonly causes the problems that conventional used oilfield pipe has.

Since coiled tubing is used primarily for completion and testing of wells it is rarely, if ever, exposed to saltwater, is free of any chemicals or oilfield material but most importantly, it  is  NEVER subjected to the most damaging element of oilfield pipe, sucker rods.

Just like preventive maintenance, coiled tubing is systematically changed out.  You can compare it to changing the air filter on your engine every 5000 miles.  Your engine is still running fine but to prevent expensive repairs in the future, you perform preventive maintenance and change your filters. Companies that operate coiled tubing units replace the tubing on a prescribed number of jobs BEFORE they encounter problems with it.

Partial inventory of de-coiled pipe

This makes for good, heavy, clean pipe available economically available for use in livestock fencing.

When a spool is “changed out” the pipe is then de-coiled and ran through a machine that straightens it, saw cuts it and places it into a bundle.  The effectiveness of this process is about 95% meaning that because of the speed the pipe is de-coiled, sometimes the joints are not perfectly straight but we offer a solution to that.
